D. V. Shaw, 73, Lock and Dam Road, Rome Rte. 3, died this morning at the residence following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Floyd County on March 8, 1900, son of the late Henry Vinson and Mary Matilda Wilson Shaw. He had resided in Rome and Floyd County his entire life. He was a retired captain of 3 Station of the Rome Fire Department, having been with the fire department for 27 years prior to his retirement in 1960. He was a member of Bush Arbor Baptist Church.

Survivors include his widow, the former Connie Teat, to whom he was married Nov. 24, 1930; one brother, Collie Shaw of Melbourne, Fla.; three sisters, Mrs. Eunice Montgomery of Cave Springs, Mrs. Flonnie Coffin of Cave Springs and Mrs. Lessie Burton of Cedartown

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday in the chapel of Daniel's Funeral Home with the Revs. H. E. Elliott and James Black officiating. Interment will be in East View Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be composed of nephews.

Honorary pallbearers will include Alton Studdard, Allen Thomas, Johnson Lindsey, George Morris, John Walraven, Ernest Kay, Joe Dunwoody, William Roberson, Homer Bradshaw, W. E. Wiggins, George Gibson, E. C. Hamilton, Mayland Pruitt and W. L. Pruitt.

The body will lie in state at the funeral home and the family will receive friends there from 7 until 9 p.m. Saturday. At other hours they will be at the residence on the Lock and Dam Road.
