William Samuel "Sam" Harris was born Sunday, November 23, 1884 in the Short Creek Community of Etowah County, Alabama, to Louis Pinkney "Pink" Harris and Dollie Angeline Thrasher Harris.
Sam Harris was the brother of Sarah Jane Carr, Rosie Harris Carr Peppers, Virgil Grover Harris, Mary Caloney McNutt, Dollie Bea McNutt, Nancy Ellen Merriman, Tom Lonzo Harris and Lou Sindie Bradley.
He first married Dixie Ila Hampton, a daughter of John Allen Anderson Hampton and Mary Omega Jordan Hampton, in Lawrence County, Alabama.
The children of Sam and Dixie Harris are Zola Grisham and Margaret Viola Stover Robinson.
In the World War I Draft Registration of September 12, 1918, he was described as being of medium height, a stout build with blue eyes and black hair. He was 33 years old at the time and was farming for himself. Sam and Dixie Harris were residents of Route 2, Moulton, Alabama, in the Kitchens Community of Lawrence County.
His second wife was Annie Mae Noojin Harris.
As a note of interest, Sam Harris Road in Rome, Georgia bears his name.
