Canadian Statesman. Born in L’Assomption, Québec, he studied in L’Assomption, at the Séminaire de Québec as well at Laval University. He was admitted to the bar of the Quebec province on October 1, 1878. He became professor at the Montréal branch of Laval University specializing in commercial and maritime law, serving on the Secretary of the Law faculty from 1886 to 1891 and most dean of this faculty from 1915 to his death. Named legislative counselor for the division of Repentigny on June 6, 1888, he was a member of the Public Instruction Board of the province in 1890, and served as President of the Bar of Montréal and General President of the Bar of the province in 1900 and 1901. Created Queen Counsel in 1899, and served as Procuror General in the successive cabinets of premiers Marchand and Parent, from May 26, 1897 to March 23 1905. Served as Speaker of the Legislative Counsel from June 19, 1897 to his resignation, September 17 1908. He was appointed judge to King’s Bench Court on September 17, 1908. Served as an administrator of the province of Québec from December 24, 1914 to February 8 1915 and again from February 6 to April 7, 1918. He died in Trois-Pistoles, Québec in 1918.
