Mrs. Lydia E. Bates, a life-long resident of Central Illinois who spent most of her life in Maroa, died in Springfield hospital Saturday morning. She fell Thursday morning and fractured her hip.
She was born Mary 25, 1858, Lydia Eleanor Parker, the fifth and youngest child of James Shepherd and Rachel Hankinson Parker. She was born in the Parker home four and one-half miles northwest of Maroa.
She was married June 17, 1880, to the Rev. Abraham H. Bates. Mr. Bates at that time pastor of the Presbyterian church of Maroa.
The Rev., Mr. and Mrs. Bates parents, her three brothers William H., James Hankinson and John P. Parker and her one sister, Mrs. Sarah J. Stoutenborough all preceded her in death, leaving her the last of one of Macon county's prominent pioneer families.
The body was taken to Caplinger's funeral home in Maroa.
Brief funeral services will be held in the residence in Maroa at 1 p.m. on Monday. Burial will be in Oak Ridge cemetery in Springfield.
