Fashion Designer, Perfumer. Born in Normandy, France, he moved to Paris in 1912, started designing, sports attire, dresses and opened a boutique shop. In 1914, he sold his entire collection to an American buyer. During World War I he served as a Captain in the French Army at the Dardanelle front. After the war, he reopens his boutique under his own name in 1919 and started creating his first perfume fragrances. He founded the Jean Patou brand which included 44 perfumes and fragrances by 1925. After Patou died at age 55 in 1936, his company continued to produce fragrances under the Jean Patou brand going on to be in world wide distribution to date.
