Billie Ware, 74, of 1135 Orchard St., died at 8 pm June 18, 2011, at Hospice House.

He was born Oct. 12, 1936, to Roy and Georgia L. Ayers Ware. He married Wilma "Toots" VanKirk on May 16, 1966. She preceded him in death on Feb. 3, 2009.

A veteran of the U.S. Marines, he was stationed in Hawaii, serving from 1953-55. He was a crane operator 41 years for Local No. 234 working at Winbco Tank and McInish. He helped manage East End Tavern for 28 years. He loved and enjoyed people.

He was a member of Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. His favorite pastimes were fishing, spending time on the water and with his family.

Surviving are five children, Kathy Mims of Cedar Rapids, Janie Walton of Vinton, Bryan Ware of Vinton, Rhonda(Todd)Houk and Sheila Anderson, both of Ottumwa; 15 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a brother, Jerry(Donna)Ware of Ottumwa; two sisters, Dorothy(Stanley)Glosser of Ottumwa and Betty(Dwayne)Proctor of Blakesburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Todd Ware; a grandaughter, Ashlee Ware; and a brother, Charles Delmar Ware.

Funeral services will be 1 pm Wednesday at Reece Funeral home with Rev. Bryan Wyldes officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery with military services conducted by Walter B. Schafer Post No. 775 Veterans of Foreign Wars and O.B.Nelson Post No. 3 of the American Legion. Visitation begins at 10 am Tuesday at the funeral home with the family present from 6-8 pm Tuesday. Memorials may be made to Hospice at Ottumwa, Iowa.
