Daughter of Seth Hurin Bates Sarah unk. Bates.
Seth Hurin Bates was born 8 April 1782, in Morris Co. New Jersey. He was son of Revolutionary War veteran Uzal Bates and wife Elizabeth (Hurin). The family moved to Hamilton
County, Ohio in 1791.

Seth Hurin Bates married about 1805 to Sarah (?), born 4 Nov
1787, died 1819.

They had six children;
1. David Bates (1807-1871)
2. Orpha (1809-1860)
3. John M. (1811-1895)
4. Elizabeth (1811-1895)
5. Silas Hurin (1815-1888)
6. Phebe (1817-unk)
Seth married Mrs. Anna (Mann) Doty in Crawford County, Illinois 7 Jan 1820. They had no children.

Seth, Anna and his children were listed in the undated memorandum when they were sworn into Robertson's Colony, Tx.
Seth Hurin Bates came to Robertson's Colony, Tx. ca. 1833 with a group of Illinois settlers led by Rev. Daniel Parker. The settlers built a stockade known as Parker's Fort near Groesbeck, Texas in 1835 on the Navasott (Navasota) River.
Seth received two Spanish Land Grants in Falls County, Texas dated 18 Aug 1835. These grants contained 4,605 acres.

Orpha Bates (1809-1860) first married James James in 1827 in Cole County, Illinois. James died before 1836, when Orpha and her two small children, (1. Carson Bates James b. 3 Jan, 1832, Ill. d. 1850, Limestone Co, Tex. and 2. Sarah Ann James b. 2 May 1830, Ill. d. 1 Sept 1898, Limestone Co, Texas) filed for entry papers in Robertson's Colony on 14 Jan. 1836. Shortly after her arrival in Texas, she married Elisha Anglin.

Elisha Anglin married (his third wife) Orpha (Bates) James In Tinnan's Fort, Robertson's Colony, Texas
in early 1836. I just found out Tinnin's Fort was very close to Springfield, Texas. Which is where Elisha and Orpha finally settled. He has staked out a claim of land in Limestone County in 1835, but did not return to it until the spring of 1838. He stayed at Fort Houston and missed the Attack on Fort Parker.
In Jan 1844 he returned to his land in Limestone County and took up residence there.
He and Orpha had eight children;
1. Elisha b. 1837
2. Seth b. 1840
3. Silas K. b. 1843
4. Sarah Emmaline b. 1846
5. Catherine b. 1850
6. Eleanor Adeline b. 1855
Don't know about the other two or, were there anymore.

Orpha died in 1860 probably Limestone County, burial is unknown.
