Ann Eliza Rogers Harris
Birth: Sep. 8, 1833
North Carolina, USA
Death: Jun. 23, 1918
Vance County
North Carolina, USA

Annie Rogers' mother was Sarah (Sallie) Rolfe, the daughter of William Rolfe of the Virginia Colony. Sarah Rolfe married first Charles Harris and had one son Dr. William Rolfe Harris. Charles Harris died on 11 Jan 1829. Two years after Sarah Rolfe Harris was widdowed she married Samuel Rogers (14 Nov 1798 to 17 Dec 1856) son of Joseph Rogers (1771-1851) and Dicey Kittrell (1776-1851) who married 14 Oct 1797. Joseph's father John Rogers had received a land grant from Lord Granville. Sallie and Samuel Rogers had two children, Ann Eliza Rogers and Major Andrew J. Rogers (12-2-1830 to 1-21-1875).

When she was not quite 15.5 years old, Annie Rogers married Benjamin Franklin Harris (14 February, 1849) and had 8 children. Three died in infancy. B.F. Harris Jr. died of typhoid fever at age 19. The other four sons (George Badger, Samuel Rogers, Fletcher Reese, and Andrew Jackson) plus 28 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren were living at the time of her death at age 85 years. The four generation picture was one of very few that were taken of her.

After her husband's death, in 1875, she lived with her eldest son George and his family. On cool days, she would sit by the fire in the coal grate and tat. She was a small frail looking woman with a multitude of tiny wrinkles.

An article in The Methodist Protestant described her: 'She came of a sturdy, honest, kindly, generous stock, and her life was the magnificent fruit of a proud parentage. All who knew her loved her. She wasted no time, nor indeed anything else...Her religion demanded of her six days of labor and one day of Sabbath rest, and she faithfully obeyed these demands...All her life she was kindness, all her strength, generosity. Her live of indomitable energy was, nevertheless, a triumphant song.'
