Rev. Dr. Elias Bowen was the son of John and Sarah (Briggs) Bowen. He was the husband of Abigail (Birdseye) Bowen. He was a minister in the Methodist Episcopal Church: Genesee (now Western New York) Conference 1814 F 1816 To Oneida Conference at organization 1829 To Central New York Conference at organization 1869 Withdrawn 1870. He was a Presiding Elder for twenty-four years and was seven times elected a ministerial delegate to General Conference. He later joined the Free Methodist Church. He was a trustee of Cazenovia Seminary, Cazenovia, New York for 17 years.
