French Aviation Pioneer. Born in Septfonds, Tarn-et-Garonne, Southern France, he was veteran pilot of early aviation. During World War I, he flew as a pilot in the East Front where he became an 'ace' flying bombers. After the war, he was an airline pilot flying the route Paris to London or Paris to Casablanca, Morocco. He was also noted for setting numerous flight records in the 1920s, including non-stop flights Paris to Assouan, Paris to Calcutta, Paris to Djask and Paris to Nijni-Tajilsk. On September 1 and 2, 1930, together with pilot Maurice Bellonte, they became the first people to make a direct nonstop flight between Paris and New York. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
