For eight seasons (1960 to 1967), he played at the linebacker position in the American Football League with the Boston Patriots. Born Thomas Marion Addison, he attended Lancaster High School (South Carolina) and played collegiate football at the University of South Carolina. Selected by the Baltimore Colts during the 12th round of the 1958 NFL Draft, he was also chosen by the Ottawa Rough Riders of the Canadian Football League. He ended up with Boston of the newly formed American Football League and during his career earned four consecutive Pro-Bowl appearances (1961 to 1964), received All-Pro honors in 1961 and was named to the Sporting News AFL All-League Team in 1963 and 1964. He was a key player on the 1963 Patriots' squad which appeared in the 1963 AFL Championship Game. In 106 regular season games, he recorded 16 interceptions for 103 yards. Addison was elected president of the AFL in 1964 and was helpful in bringing viability to the league. He was selected to the Patriots' 1960s All-Decade Team in 1971. (bio by: C.S.)
