Thomas E. Hall, prominent citizen and veteran dead.
Thos. E. Hall, who had been a resident of Freeport for over 50 years, passed away at his home here Sunday morning. Mr. Hall had been in failing health for a number of years, but had only been confined to his home for a few days.
Mr. Hall was a son of Thos. and Mary Carver Hall, and was born in Belmont County, near Flushing, June 4th, 1847, and was the last and youngest of a family of ten children - 6 girls and 4 boys.
He, with his three brothers, enlisted in the Civil War, and all were spared to return. Mr. Hall had an unusual war record, serving three years in the services, and participated in eleven battles. He was with Sherman in his famous march to the sea.
March 2, 1871, Mr. Hall was united in marriage with Miss Rhetta Fiester, at Moorefield by Rev. Coil. Mrs. Hall preceded him in death 17 years ago.
On April 8, 1913, he was again united in marriage, to Mrs. Emma Johnson, who survives him.
Mr. Hall was a quiet, industrious man, a kind husband, and a good citizen, and will be greatly missed in the community. "Uncle Tom", as he was familiarly known, was a friend to all, especially the children, many sincerely regret his passing.
Funeral service were held from the M.E. Church, Wednesday, July 4, at 2 o'clock. Rev. Coffman was assisted in the services by Rev. Conrad. Interment was made in Greenmont Cemetery.
