Hughlon Gerald Carter, Sr., age 83, of Alma died Saturday June 11th, 2011 at the Bacon County Hospital after an extended illness. He was a native of Bacon County, son of the late Hymrick Kellie Carter and Clarice Altman Carter and was also preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Delane Williams Carter, an infant son, Winnie Kellie Carter, a grandson, Nicholas Douglas and a brother, Waylon Carter. Hughlon was self employed for many years in the grocery business, was very active in blueberry farming with Carter's Blueberry Patch, loved Alma and Bacon County, member of the Alma United Methodist Church where he chaired many boards over the years and served in the U S Army.
Survivors include a son, Hughlon Gerald Carter, Jr. and wife Cynthia Leigh of Alma, two daughters, Pamela Delane Jordan and husband Pastor Dan of Xenia, Ohio, Kym Maria Douglas and husband Larry of Hartwell, GA, a brother, Linton Carter and wife Harriett of Alma, ten grandchildren, Maria Mills (Chris), Angela Jordan of Xenia, Ohio, Hughlon G. Carter, III (Stephanie) of Blackshear, Zachary Douglas of Hartwell, GA, Brenda Garrett (Larry) of Richmond Hill, GA, Kelley Rose Carter, Madison Carter and Reagan Carter all of Alma, Alyssa and Bailey Bryant both of Pinellas Park, FL.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the Alma United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark Barth officiating, eulogy's will be delivered by daughters Pam Jordan and Kym Douglas. The body will be carried to the church Wednesday at 1:00 P M to lie in state. Interment will follow in Springfield Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening between 6 and 9 P M. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Hospice Satilla 808 Evergreen Way Waycross. Ga. 31501.
Active pallbearers will be, McCoy Crosby, Joe Sears, Ron Williams and Curtis Taylor. All others in attendance will be considered as honorary.
