Social Reformer. A noted abolitionist, underground railroad figure, and Civil War nurse, she was born in Kitley, Leeds Coount Ontario, Canada. She was the founder of the State Public School for Dependent Children At Coldwater, and co-founder of The Raisin Institute of Learning, one of the first schools in the United States to allow Blacks. After the Civil War, she served as an officer in the Freedmanís Aid Society. (bio by: Stuthehistoryguy)
