US Congressman. In 1880, he moved with his parents to Nodaway County, Missouri, later attended Shenandoah College Iowa and taught school in Missouri and Iowa, (1889-96). He was the editor-publisher of the Parnell Sentinel (1896-1900), the Nodaway Forum, (1900-08), a member of the Missouri House of Representatives (1901-05) and president of the board of regents of Northwest Missouri Teachers College, (1905-08). Moving to San Pedro, California, in 1912, he engaged in the real estate and building business, plus was president of the San Pedro Chamber of Commerce, (1922-24). He was also president of the Los Angeles Harbor commission, (1923-25) and a member of the Los Angeles City Council, (1925-29). In 1929, he was elected as a Democrat to the Seventy-third, Seventy-fourth and Seventy-fifth Congresses, serving until his death at age 37. (bio by: John "J-Cat" Griffith)
