Catherine Lavonne (Kellar) Dow age 80 passed away 7 Jun 2011, in the home of her son John in Indian Head, MD of non-Hodgkin lymphona.
"Cassie" as she was know by her family, was the eldest of five sisters. She was born in Clarksburg, WV on Christmas day 1930 to Arnold Arbuthnot Kellar and Catherine Veronica Kellar (Lyden).
She was a 1949 graduate of Jackson Liberty H.S. in Amsden, OH, where she was editor of the annual yearbook and a member of the debate team that went to the state championship.
She was a full-time mother and housekeeper while her children were young, then entered the workforce at the Naval Weapons Center, China Lake, CA. She served as secretary to the commanding officer from 1975 until she relocated to La Plata, MD in 1978 with Robert. She worked as an environmental protection specialist for the Navy Ordnance Environmental Support Office at Indian Head, MD until her retirement in 1993.
She loved her flower gardens, and watching the birds come to her many feeders.
She is survived by her husband Robert L. Dow of Quail Run Assisted Living in Baltimore, MD; sons John (Donata), Mike (Margaret Anne) of Caldwell, NC; daughter Nancy Dow (Michael Curley) of San Jose, CA; sisters Mary Dunfee of Union City, GA; Vesta Montion of Grove City, OH and Beatrice (Don) Scherger of Tiffin, OH.
She is predeceased by her sister Diane Parman in 2007.
She had five grandchildren: Robert and Katherine Dow and Hannah, Brendan and Jonathan Curley.
