Tipton, Wayne Arnold, age 76 of Maryville, passed away Wednesday, June 8, 2011, at Blount Memorial Hospital. He was born August 31, 1934.

He graduated from Everett High School and attended Walters State Community College. He worked at the Maryville Police Department for 33 years, patrol officer 16 years and detective for 17 years. After retiring from Maryville Police Department he worked for Judge D. Kelly Thomas as a court officer for 12 years. Music was a big part of Wayne's life, he had a beautiful tenor voice. He had a great talent in music and sang with local group "The Kinsmen" for several years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and Army National Guards and served proudly.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Roy and Myrtle Nuchols Tipton, grandparents, Rev. Johnnie and Louisa Myers Tipton, William and Mattie Goddard Nuchols, son Tim Tipton, niece Kelly Ogle.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years Belle Coulter Tipton, daughters Missy Tipton Green and husband Ricky, Susan Jones and husband John; grandchildren, Bethany and Josh Blair, Cody Herron, Rachel and Jessica Jones; great-granddaughters, Evie and Macie Blair; sister and brother-in-law, Gail and John Stumpf; nephews, Ronnie Ogle and Lamar Stumpf; great-nephew, Brandon Burnett; sister-in-law, Margaret Boring; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Shirley and Raymond Burnett; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Carol Coulter; brother-in-law, Gary Coulter.

The funeral service will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Macht officiating. The interment will be at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Piney Level Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
