Clayton Lincoln Hinckley of Raynham, formerly of Taunton passed away on the evening of March 31, 2015 at Morton Hospital. Mr. Hinckley was 89 years old. He was the husband of the late Louise Hinckley (Rounds) with whom he shared over 59 years of marriage. Mr. Hinckley is survived by his 2 sons Peter Hinckley and his significant other Perdita Wexler of New Mexico and George Hinckley of Raynham. He is also survived by grandsons Eric Hinckley and his wife Julie of Colorado and Ethan Hinckley of New Mexico. Clayton was the proud great grandfather of Wesley and Bailey Hinckley both of Colorado. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; including his grandniece Rachel Rounds who served as his committed caregiver for the last year and a half.
Clayton was born on November 20, 1925 in Taunton, son of the late Clarence and Carolyn (Gough) Hinckley. He graduated from Taunton High School as a member of the class of 1943 and he served as the treasurer of the reunion committee for several years. Following his graduation from high school Mr. Hinckley enlisted into the United States Navy and would serve his country honorably in the Pacific Theater where is participated in the Liberation of the Philippines. During his service in the Navy he served as an electricianís mate.He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post 611 in Taunton as well as the Sampson Navy Vets. Mr. Hinckley was a past Mason, member of the King David Lodge in Taunton and a member of the Winthrop St. Baptist Church. He continued his education following his military service by attending Franklin Tech in Boston and later graduated from Coyne Electrical School. Clayton would go on to become a Warehouse Supervisor for the Texas Instruments Co. Clayton loved Cape Cod, and inherited a cottage in E. Sandwich from his father in 1967. That cottage provided Clayton and his family many happy summers until it was lost during the Norí Easter of 2015. Mr. Hinckley was a drummer and played in many local orchestras from the 1940-1970ís.
Visiting Hours will be held on Friday April 3, 2015 from 5-8pm at Taunton Funeral Home 8 Crapo St. (off Route 140/Tremont St.) Taunton. A funeral service will be held on Saturday April 4th at 1pm. Interment with Military Honors will follow in Stevenís Corner Cemetery in Rehoboth. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the VFW Post 611 82 Ingell St. Taunton, MA 02780.
