Roland served as a Corporal in the 18th Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, U.S. Army during World War II.

He resided at 431 Gregory, Rochester, Monroe County, New York prior to the war.

He enlisted in the Army on October 28, 1938 in Rochester.

He was "Killed In Action" on the North African Front during the war. He was awarded a Silver Star and a Purple Heart.

His "Silver Star" award notes: Cpl Mack deliberately exposed himself to enemy machine gun fire to protect his patrol. His action diverted the machine gunner's attention and enabled members of his patrol to silence the weapon.
