John was the son of Samuel Stratton Sr and an Alice Beebe, norn in Puddington, Bedfordshire,England. Both his father and mother's parentage remain unknown. John's known brothers in the colonies are Samuel Jr and Richard. John was born in England and migrated to the colonies before his brother, Richard, who was on the 1656 Speedwell.
John married Elizabeth Traine, the daughter of John and Margaret. They were married 10 March 1658 in Watertwon and had the following children:

John was listed with his father when Samuel was appointed the surveyor in 1647, and took an oath of Fidelity with his father and brother 06 Dec 1652, and was also listed on the muster rolls for Watertown Militia. John was admitted as a
freeman 27 May 1663. His will, dated 04 Nov 1708 lists his son John, Joseph, Samuel, Elizabeth Chenry, Rebecca Seaverns, daughters-in-laws and grandchildren.
