James V. Cummins, Jr. 78, Danville, passed away March 14, 2008. Born February 13, 1930 in Indianapolis, he was the son of James V. Cummins Sr. and Pearl LeMaster Cummins.
Jim graduated from Danville High school in 1948 and attended Washington University in Spokane majoring in Art and Interior Design. He then joined the U.S. Air Force serving 4 years in Korea. After discharge, he obtained his bachelors degree from Butler University with a degree in Business and Accounting.
Mr. Cummins then opened a book store and gift shop on the square in Danville where he and his mother worked. He then started his own insurance agency. After selling the bookstore and agency, he began work for the American States Insurance Co for 20 years. Jim then teamed with Donna Spurlock and began the Danville Realty Co. which he operated for several years. Jim was a member of the First Baptist Church of Danville and a 50 year member of Western star Lodge #26 F & AM.
Survivors include a niece, Kathryn Manley; nephews, James Barnette and wife Maridean, John H. Barnette and wife Ronda; foster sister, Betty Goldan and many great nieces and nephews. Services will be at 12 noon on Thursday, March 20, 2008 in the First Baptist Church in Danville, with calling from 10 a.m. until time of service.
