Elsie Nichols Clifford is the daughter of George Henry Westberry Nichols and Julia Bates Nichols. She is the sister of playwright Anne Nichols (author of "Abie's Irish Rose") and Evelyn Nichols Stinson. Elsie married Edward Emil Clifford. Edward Clifford was the son of Oakleaf and Adeline Mary Alary Clifford. Elsie acted as a bridesmaid and later as the title role of "Rosemary" in her sister's play "Abie's Irish Rose" on Broadway. It is not known at this point where Elsie is buried in California. The following newspaper article appeared in the Albuquerque Journal on September 25, 1930:

E.E. CLIFFORD WILL MARRY SISTER OF MISS ANNE NICHOLS

E.E. Clifford, former Albuquerquean now an automobile factory representative in Los Angeles, will be married there Saturday to Miss Elsie Nichols, youngest sister of Anne Nichols. It was learned Wednesday. Louis Clifford, cab company proprietor and brother of the bridegroom will act as best man. He left Friday night by automobile for Los Angeles. The fiance is well known in the east from her portrayal of "Rosemary" in Anne Nichol's famous play "Abie's Irish Rose."

Another interesting article published in The New York Times on June 1, 1925 while appearing in her sister Anne's play "Abie's Irish Rose." :

REBUKES A POLICEMAN

Court Then Clears Actor and Actress on Traffic Violation Charge

Harold Shubert, 24 years old, an actor living at The Lambs, and Miss Elsie Nichols, who were arrested Saturday night at Fifty-second Street and Eighth Avenue on charges of disorderly conduct, were exonerated yesterday in West Side Court and Magistrate Glatzmayer rebuked Patrolman Phillip DeNezzo for pursuing them after he had served a summons on Shubert for driving his car past a standing street car. The policeman testified that Shubert said he would send him "out to Staten Island with the rest of the goats" when he served a summons on the actor and that Miss Nichols had thumbed her nose at him and stuck out her tongue. Shubert denied having made the statement and Miss Nichols denied his charge against her. Both denied also that they had run past the car and said the policeman was insolent.

Phillip DeNezzo was located at headquarters 41 Waldron.

And yet another story but cop is "Thomas" Dinnezo this time:

The Border Cities Star June 1, 1925

NY June 1 Elsie Nichols, 20 years old, an actress, sister of Anne Nichols, the playwright, was arraigned in West Side Court, Sunday, on a policeman's charge that she made grimaces at him. The judge dismissed the complaint. Patrolman, Thomas Dinnezo, of West 47th Street Station told magistrate Glatzmeyer that the trouble had started early in the morning after he served a summons on Miss Nichol's companion, Harold Shubert, an actor, for a traffic violation. Upon Shubert starting away in a car, he said Miss Nichols turned and mad the objectionable grimaces. He gave chase in a department car and served them with a summons.

On her passport dated July 3, 1923 she is described as follows:
Age 17; 5 ft 4 3/4 inches tall; blue eyes; straight nose; blonde hair; fair complexion; round face.

Julia Nichols, her mother, testifies as to her identity and state that she, Julia, lives at 112 Jackson Heights New York.

Elsie was born in the city of Philadelphia in the State of Pennsylvania on March 30, 1906. The application states that her father is George Nichols, born in Georgia and living in Chicago, Illonois (address unknown). She lives at 112- 19th Street Jackson Heights, New York. Her photo is applied to the application.
