From the Rutland Daily Herald, Feb. 1, 1909:
Edward Lovelett of Rutland died at 8.45 o'clock at the home of Herbert Webster in Fair Haven Saturday morning as a result of injuries received Friday evening. While about to descend the stairs at the street railway waiting station at Fair Haven shortly before 8.30 o'clock, he slipped on the top stair and fell down the entire flight, striking on his head and receiving a fractured skull. He died from the result of his injuries at 9 o'clock Saturday morning at the home of Harry Webster where he was carried. Mr. Lovelett and George F. Merling of Castleton were together, and had just come from Whitehall, N.Y., and they were about to go to Castleton when the accident occurred. Mr. Lovelett was picked up by bystanders and carried to Mr. Webster's home, and was attended by Dr. George D. Parkhurst, surgeon of the Rutland Railway, Light and Power company.
Mr. Lovelett was born in Essex Junction and enlisted at Richford during the civil war, serving in company G of the 13th Vermont infantry. He is survived by three brothers, Moses of Richford and two who live in the West, also four sisters, who live in the West.
He also leaves one son, Moses Lovelett of North Clarendon, and four daughters, Mrs. George Wood of Ludlow, Mrs. L. Lillick and Mrs. F.G. Todd of this city, and Mrs. John Seals, who lived in Canada.
The body was brought Saturday to the undertaking rooms of J.W. Stearns and the funeral will be held at 3 o'clock this afternoon and will be private. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. Lovelett was the man who was robbed of his watch and $3 at the Brunswick hotel in this city early in December, and Percival C. Hunter, who was arrested for the act, is serving two months at the house of correction.
