James Ryan died at 5 o’clock Saturday afternoon at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Carrie Curtis, in this city, of kidney trouble, after an illness of about three weeks. The funeral service was held out at the old farm home where his son, Will lives, Monday afternoon, Rev. W. H. Underwood officiating. Burial was in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Mr. Ryan was born in Ireland July 24th, 1847, so was 79 years of age last July. He came to this country when a young man of 18 years and settled in the Rose Hill neighborhood. He was married to Miss Nancy Lamb, March 23rd, 1873, and nine children were born to them, Jess Ryan, of Herman, Jim lives in the Rose Hill neighborhood, Will on the old home place, John, of Linwood, Neb., Van, of Norfolk, Mrs. Carrie Curtis, of this city, Mrs. Clarence Jensen, and Mrs. Rudolph Mencke, both live in the Rose Hill neighborhood and Mrs. Mike Larsen, of Fremont. All survive him, with his widow. Up until March of last year they lived on the old farm, since then with Mrs. Curtis. Mr. Ryan was a good husband, father, neighbor and citizen who will be greatly missed by many old friends.

The community was saddened last Saturday morning when word was received that James Ryan, Sr., had passed away at his home in Blair. Mr. Ryan was born July 24, 1847 at Rathmale county Limerick, Ireland, and died Sept. 11th, 1926, being 79 years, one month and eighteen days. He came to America in 1865, and filed on his homestead in the Rose Hill community, four years later, he lived on this farm until March 1, 1925, when he and his wife moved to Blair and made their home with their daughter, Mrs. Carrie Curtis. He was married in March, 1873, to Miss Nancy Lamb. He leaves to mourn his loss his wife and nine children, Mrs. Carrie Curtis, Blair; Jack Ryan, Linwood, Nebr., Van Ryan, Norfolk, Mrs. Mike Larsen, Fremont; Mrs. Clarence Jensen, Mrs. Rudolph Mencke, Jesse Will and James J. Ryan, all living near Herman. The funeral was largely attended by sorrowing friends which was held last Monday afternoon at two o’clock at the Rose Hill church, Rev. Underwood of Blair having charge of the services. The body was laid to rest in the Rose Hill cemetery.
