Served in Company D. 2nd Missouri (Federal) Cavalry under Col. Lewis Merrill, thus this unit was also called "Merrill's Horse."
Turner went in as a private and came out as a sargeant.
This unit was organized at Benton Barracks, Missouri from September to December 1861.
Spent a lot of early war years in the Missouri and Arkansas area.
Eventually went to Tennessee where it spent time fighting guerrilas in Georgia and Alabama. Served as escort for trains from Chattanooga to Atlanta.
Mustered out with regiment on 19 September 1865
It is thought that he died in Bridal Veil, Oregon. If so that would mean he died in Multnomah County.
