Civil War Union Army Soldier. He was mustered in as a Private in Company C, Purnell Legion Maryland Volunteer Cavalry on August 27, 1862. He served with the cavalry company until November 17, 1864, when it was consolidated with the 8th Maryland Volunteer Infantry. Mustered into Company I, he served until he was honorably discharged on July 8, 1865. He was wounded in action on August 18, 1864.
On August 18, 1890 his widow, Marry A. Glading, filed for a Unite States Army Widow's Pension (Application #459716, Certificate #305945).
Son of Jacob and Mary Glading.
Obituary, Philadelphia Inquirer, August 29, 1865 -
"GLADING - On Monday, the 28th instant, BENJAMIN F. GLADING, in the 24th year of his age. The relatives and friends of the family are respectfully invited to attend the funeral, from the residence of his parents, No. 247 N. Second street, on Wednesday afternoon, the 30th instant, at 3 o'clock. Interment at Laurel Hill."
