US Congressman. He served in the Confederate Army during the Civil War as a 1st Lieutenant in the 1st Georgia Infantry, and was wounded on July 22, 1864 at the Battle of Atlanta. He was elected as a Democrat to represent Georgia's 7th Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1881 to 1891.
