Mr. Whitney was born in Watertown, Mass., Dec. 14th, 1875, and had lived in Concord for 67 years.
In September, 1897, Mr. Whitney bought A. F. Bowman's provision business at 13 Thoreau street, where the J. H. Whitney store is still doing business.
Mr. Whitney is survived by his widow, Bessie MacLeod Whitney, three daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Whitney Sheldon, Mrs. Margaret Whitney Lamson, Miss Dorothy Whitney; three brothers, William Alfred, Charles and Roland; five sisters, Mrs. Ida MacLeod, Mrs. Frank Vanderhoof, Mrs. Ernest Hinsman of Norwood, Mrs. Lemuel Small and Miss Florence Whitney.
He was a member of the Concord Lodge, I. O. O. F.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at 3 p.m. from his late home, 17 Belknap street, Rev. John Wallace, pastor of the Congregational Church, officiating.
Burial was in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery.
