U.S. Congressman. He graduated from Transylvania University, taught school for several years, studied law, was admitted to the bar in 1830 and commenced to practice law in Mount Sterling, Kentucky. He was appointed as Commonwealth attorney in 1832 and was member of the Kentucky State House of Representatives, (1836-37). In 1837, he was elected as a Whig to the Twenty-fifth Congress, serving until 1839. Not standing for re-election, he resumed the practice of law and was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1841, but died before he could take office.
