Born at Bryant's Station in Bourbon County, Kentucky, he attended the common schools and later graduated from the University of Virginia in 1840. Menzies returned to Kentucky, studied law, was admitted to the bar, and practiced as an attorney in Covington, Kentucky. He became a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 1848 to 1855. Elected as a Unionist to represent Kentucky's 10th District in the United States House of Representatives, he served from 1861 to 1863. Menzies resumed his legal profession in Covington and was also a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in 1864. He became Judge of the Chancery Court in 1873 and presided over the bench until 1893. Menzies died in Falmouth, Kentucky in 1897 when he was 78 years old. (bio by: K Guy)
