Hattie's parents were Jacob and Jenneke Van Vark both born in The Netherlands. By 1860 they were in Marion County IA when son, John, was born. Other siblings of Hattie were Martha born about 1861, Willemina born about 1863, and Sophia born about 1878.

Iowa Select Marriages lists Hattie's wedding date to Abraham Bogaard as July 11, 1889 In Knoxville, Marion Co Iowa. However, the 1900 census said they had been married 10 years which is close. The problem with this is that two of their children listed in the 1900 census were born before 1889. Their ages match up to these dates in following census records, also.

Abraham born Oct. 1883
Millie born Mar. 1886
William born May 1890
Minnie born May 1893
Jennie born Jun 1895

They were all born in Iowa and the census also recorded that Hattie was the mother of 5 children, 3 of those living. This is kind of confusing.

Abraham did general farming on rented property throughout his adult life. In 1910 Abraham (Jr) and William were also helping on the family farm. Hattie was a housekeeper.

Most of their lives were spent in the Lake Prairie and Pella areas, both in Marion County, Iowa.
