Henry Spiese Aurand was born in Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. He graduated from West Point in 1915 along with Dwight D. Eisenhower. Later, in an autobiography, Eisenhower referred to Henry as "Dutch" Aurand although he was called Harry by his family. Henry joined the Ordnance Corps in 1919 where he developed great expertise in military logistics. His work was pivotal to the United States Army in world War II. He was responsible for procuring the Jeep for military usage and also instrumental in forging the Lend Lease program. He also served in World War I and the Korean War, retiring as Commander, United States Pacific, in 1952. He was ultimately inducted into the Hall of Fame and can be found in the Who's Who in America.
