Daughter of Thomas Pettit "Uncle Tom" and Sarah Jane Stough Humphrey. Wife of Jesse Edward Epperson, married on 13 DEC 1881 in Scotland County, Missouri.

Malissa Jane Humphrey Epperson, the daughter of Thomas Pettit and Sarah Jane Humphrey was born near Bible Grove, Scotland County, Mo., Nov. 24, 1857.

And departed this life at her home hear Edina, Mi., July 23, 1931. She moved with her parents to Knox County, Missouri, settling near Hurdland in 1873. In her early womanhood she was converted and united with the Baptist Church at Newark and was baptised by the Rev. Mr. Holt, and lived as a devoted Christian throughout her life.

Malissa was united in marriage with J. E. Epperson Dec. 15, 1881, at her father's home near Bible Grove, Mo.

To them were born six children, two daughter and four sons, the oldest, a daughter, dying in infancy. Besides her husband, those surviving are: Everette and his wife of Ft. Madison, Ia., and his married daughter, Mrs. Leslie Wilson, of Peoria, Ill.; Zennie, Mrs. Tom Sharp, and her family of Hurdland, Mo.; Harley and his family of Quincy, Ill., and Lee and his wife at home.

There are six younger grandchildren, also four sisters and three brothers: Mrs. L. H. Ashby, Marceline, Mo.; Mrs. Alice Cashman, Keokuk, Ia.; Mrs. Pearl Long, LaPlata, Mo.;Mrs. V. A. Donohew, Fayetteville, Ark.; J. T. Humphrey, LaPlata, Mo.; P. B. Humphrey, Neodesha, Kan., and A. A. Humphrey, Greentop, Mo.

Dearest one we must lay thee, In the peaceful grave's embrace,
But thy memory will be cherished
Till we see thy heavenly face.
