US Congressman. During the Civil War he served as an officer in the 1st New Mexico Volunteer Infantry, rising to Lieutenant Colonel, and participating in the February 1862 Battle of Valverde. He was elected to represent the New Mexico Territory in the United States House of Representatives, serving first from 1865 to 1867, then from 1869 to 1871.
