North Salem: Reuben Samuel Goodwin, son of William and Matilda Goodwin, was born February 20, 1853 near Flemingsburg, Kentucky, and died August 8 of cancer, aged 75 years, 5 months and 16 days. Funeral services were held at the Mont Clair church. Burial was at Lizton. He was married to Eliza Jones of Fleming County, Kentucky, September 16, 1874. To this union was born seven children, all living. They are Leslie Goodwin of New Winchester, John Goodwin of Omaha, Nebr., Sarah Pennington of Pittsboro, Caroline McCoun of Noblesville, William Goodwin of Fairmount, Ill., Clarence Goodwin of Lizton, and Alice Scott of North Salem. Besides the wife and children, he leaves to mourn his going sixteen grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and two brothers, Ira of Fairmount, Ill., and Rom, of Popular Plains, Ky. Of this large family of children and grandchildren, this is the first death. Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin celebrated their golden wedding September 16, 1924. When 21 years of age, he confessed his faith at Hillsboro, Ky., under the ministry of Rev. Yates, of the Christian church. He later moved his membership to Jamestown. For a number of years, Mr. and Mrs. Goodwin lived in Kentucky where all of their children were born. In 1893, they moved to Indiana and have since lived in Boone or Hendricks county. Mr. Goodwin, better known among his friends as "Daddy", was a well known blacksmith. He followed this trade from boyhood until about five years ago when he was forced to give it up on account of impaired sight. Since that time, he has carried the mail at North Salem. He was a most devoted and loving husband and father, always the happiest when his children and grandchildren were around him.
