Boy Dies as Car Crashes;
Second Youth Near Death

David Ingram, a 16-year-old Brady High School junior, was killed and five other boys were injured when their 1953 Oldsmobile convertible overturned at the entrance to Rest Haven Cemetery early Friday night.

One of the injured boys, Billy Gene Lloyd, 21, of Midland, remained in very critical condition Tuesday at Brady Hospital, and his situation was growing worse.

David, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. R. Ingram of Brady, lived only a few minutes after the wreck.

*********

The car was headed south on U. W. Highway 87 toward Brady, hit the culvert at the entrance to the cemetery, and then rolled over. The boys were thrown out, and the car was demolished.

Jerry Larremore, 20, owner and driver of the car and son of Mrs. C. D. Larremore of Brady, was dismissed from the hospital Monday afternoon. His doctor said, however, that he will still need checkups later.

Others still in the hospital Tuesday were:

1. Archie Stone, 17, a high school junior and son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Stone of Brady. He has a broken vertebra but was in good condition.

2. Powell Hallmark, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Hallmark of Brady. He has multiple lacerations and a broken vertebra, but the injuries are not considered very serious.

3. Duwain Hendley, 18, a high school junior and son of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Hendley of Brady. He has a severe scalp laceration but was doing all right Tuesday.

**********

The boys told officers that Ingram, Hendley, and Stone had been at the Silver Spur Drive-In on South Bridge when they were picked up by the three other boys in the car. They had been together only a short time before the accident about 9 p.m. during a light mist and just before Friday night's heavy rainstorm.

Lloyd, a 1956 graduate of Brady High, was born at Doole and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Lloyd of Midland, former residents of Brady.

Funeral services for the Ingram boy were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Baptist Church, with the pastor, the Rev. J. J. Jordan, officiating. Burial was in Rest Haven Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers were six of David's Prady High classmates, Burton McCord, Max Cox, Jerrell Lawrence, Bill Archer, Orville Wright, and Curtis Gleaton.

David was born May 15, 1942, in San Antonio but had lived most of his life in Brady.

Survivors in addition to his parents are a brother, Coley Ingram, Jr., of Odessa; a sister, Mrs. Ronnie Watkins of Lubbock; twin brother and sister, Donny and Debby, 5; and his grandparents, Mrs. Dovie Tally of San Antonio and D. M. Tally, Sr., of Big Spring.
