Frances M. Hitchens, 84

MILTON - Frances M. Hitchens of Milton died Thursday, Nov. 21, 2002, in Bayhealth-Milford Memorial Hospital, Milford. She was 84.

Mrs. Hitchens, a lifelong Milton resident, was the daughter of the late Edward and Bessie Donovan Millman.

She was a homemaker, enjoyed cooking and had assisted in preparing many church and Lions Club dinners.

Mrs. Hitchens was a 50-year member of the Goshen United Methodist Church in Milton, where she was a Sunday school teacher and superintendent. She also was a member of the church's United Methodist Women's Association. She was active in the Delaware Rural Letter Carriers Auxiliary, and was a founder of the Milton Senior Citizens group. She also was an election official of the Delaware Election Board for polling places.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Frank W. Hitchens Sr., in 2001; and seven brothers, Howard E. Millman and E. Preston Millman, both of whom had lived in Lewes, and Richard Millman, Harold C. Millman, Roland P. Millman, Fred A. Millman and Henry B. Millman, all of whom had lived in Milton.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Robert Jennings of Milton; a son and daughter-in-law, Frank W. "Bud" Hitchens Jr. and Joda Hitchens of Lewes; Robert C. Jennings Jr. and Gina Jennings, Karyn L. Jennings and Karla L. Jennings, all of Milton, Krista M. Jennings of Indianapolis and Frank W. "Bot" Hitchens III and Elizabeth J. "Beth" Hitchens, both of Lewes; three sisters, Bertha N. Lee and Elizabeth Wilkerson, both of Milford, and Sara J. Tracey of Milton; and four brothers, James M. Millman, Jesse M. Millman and Everett L. Millman, all of Milton, and Robert P. Millman of Milford.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday in Short Funeral Services, Federal Street, Milton.
Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.
Burial will be in Henlopen Memorial Park, near Milton
