John William Kingman
Birth: Jan. 1, 1821
Death: Dec. 17, 1903

Civil War Union Army Officer. Served during the Civil War as Colonel and commander of the 15th New Hampshire Volunteer Infantry, a nine-month enlistment regiment. He was commissioned on October 7, 1862 and was mustered out on August 13, 1863. In the interim, he led his unit in action in Louisiana, where it participated in siege and assault on Port Hudson. In that battle, the only one of its service, the 15th New Hampshire lost 30 men killed or mortally wounded. After the war, John Kingman, a lawyer by trade, became an Associate Supreme Court Justice of the Wyoming Territory, serving from 1869 to 1873. He died in Cedar Falls, Iowa at age 82, and was buried in his native New Hampshire. (bio by: Russ Dodge)
