Richard was born 2 Oct 1921 at Ririe, Jefferson, Idaho to John Irwin Ker and Eunice Jane Perry Ker. He attended schools in Ririe and graduated from Ririe High School. He attended Utah State University in Logan, Utah, where he studied engineering for three years. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1943 and served in the Pacific as a Pilot of a TBM. He was discharged as a lieutnant in 1945. He recieved the Navy Cross, Distinguished Flying Cross and Bronze Star.
On 17 Oct 1955 he married Jean Clark at Elko, Nevada. He farmed in the Ririe area and he and his brother were some of the first farmers to break ground on the west side of Idaho Falls. He did surveying on the Palisades Dam, worked for the city of Idaho Falls, and drove potato trucks for 16 years for Rogers Brothers, American Potato and Sun Spiced. He also worked with Max Ker and Sons Lumber Company for six years
He was a member of the Idaho Falls Elks Lodge for 20 years.
He died 27 Oct 1992 and is buried in the Ririe/Shelton Cemetery.
