John I. Barr Sr., 77, 3229 Charlotte St., died Monday, Nov. 30, 1998, at Saint Vincent Health Center.
He was born in Ramsaytown, April 22, 1921, son of the late Homer H. and Sarah Cowan Barr.
He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and owned Barr Heating Sales and Service until his retirement. He was a member of Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Genevieve "Bea" Rerick Barr, who died June 23, 1993. Also preceding him in death were a son, Homer C. Barr, in 1995; two brothers, Clair and Howard Barr; and two sisters, Mildred Hoffman and Mary Barr.
He is survived by a son, John I. Barr Jr. and his wife, Sandra, of Hermitage; six daughters, Louise D. Barr of Erie, Mrs. Dennis (Alexa) Menosky of Erie, Mrs. David (Jane) Bardo of St. Petersburg, Fla., Darlene S. Barr of Erie, Mrs. Paul (Betty) Collins of Erie and Mrs. Jeffrey (Mary) Sedziak pf Erie; a sister, Mrs. George (Betty) Madden of Jamestown, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the A. Brugger and Sons Funeral Home, Pine Avenue Branch, 845 E. 38th St., today from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. and may attend a service there Thursday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Harry H. Johns III of the Elmwood Avenue Presbyterian Church will officiate. Burial will be at Erie County Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, Western Pennsylvania District, 823 Filmore Ave., Erie, PA 16505; or to the Erie County Diabetes Association, 3850 Walker Blvd., Erie, PA 16509.
