She was born in Bartow County, Ga. She was the eldest of 11 children born to the late John T. and Darley Arizona Howell Abernathy. She spent most of her life in Bartow Co.
She was married to the late Frank T. Keys and they had 1 daughter and 2 sons that they raised in Douglas County. She then married the late Silas Hardin and moved back to Bartow County to farm.
She was known for her expertise in kitchen canning and freezing vegetables that were grown on their farm, but friends and family remember her most for her amazing homemade biscuits, cobblers and fried apple pies.
She was the eldest member at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church in Cartersville.
Including her parents and 2 husbands, she was preceded in death by 3 brothers; W. B., Doyle and E. R. Anernathy; 1 step-daughter, Frances Garland.
Survivors include: 1 daughter, Diane K. Couch of Dallas; 2 sons, Wallace (Gail) Keys and Douglas (Elaine) Keys both of Dallas; 7 grandchildren, Frankie Bryant of Dallas, Vivian Couch of Dallas, Vance (Diana) Keys of Douglasville, Stefanie Venable of Dallas and Jessica (Chad) Collins of Hiram; 1 sister, Mahala Taylor of Cartersville; 5 brothers, Silas (Lou) Abernathy of Canton, Wayne (Betty) Abernathy of Dawsonville, Philip (Millie) Abernathy of Carrollton, Earl (Charlotte) Abernathy of Metter and James (Diane) Anernathy of Dallas; 2 step-children, Doug (Martha) Hardin and Lavern Sutton both of Cartersville; 8great-grandchildren, 1 great-great-granddaughter.
Services were May 8, 2011 at Owen, Cartersville, with Elder Wayne Peters and Elder Marty Smith officiating.
Interment at Macedonia Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Cartersville.
