Mary Jane "Nanie" (Funk) Simmers, 78, of 5656 Tick Ridge Road, Waynesboro, PA, passed away at 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 02, 2011 in her home. Born August 13, 1932 in Waynesboro, she was the daughter of the late Aaron J. and Mary E. (Reynolds) Funk. She was a lifelong resident of the Waynesboro area.
Mrs. Funk was a graduate of Washington Township High School with the Class of 1950.She and her husband, the late Mr. Ralph Leroy Simmers, were married June 5, 1953. They moved to their Tick Ridge Road address in 1961. Mr. Simmers passed away March 12, 1974. Mrs. Simmers was employed at the Waynesboro Knitting Mill for several years. Prior to her retirement in 1996, she was employed as a custodian for Waynesboro Area School District at Mowery school and Waynesboro Senior High for 33 years. She also served as a volunteer at the former Waynesboro Food Bank. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, trips to Chincoteague, VA and camping. She also loved her pets and animals of all kinds and gardening. Mrs. Simmers is survived by three children, Kathy L. McKay and her husband, John, Susan J. Law and her husband, Arnie and Terry L. Simmers and his wife, Debbie, all of Waynesboro; three grandchildren, Jason S. Law, Karen M. Decker and Terry L. Simmers, Jr.; a great-granddaughter, Sophia; her sister, Anna E. "Betty" Pratt, a resident of Menno Haven, Chambersburg, PA; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles W. Funk.

A celebration of her life and informal gathering will be held at Monday, June 6, 2011 in Pen Mar Park with the Rev. Dr. A. Robert Cook officiating. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Lunch Place, 100 South Church Street, Waynesboro PA 17268 or Lutheran Home Care and Hospice, 2700 Luther Drive, Chambersburg, PA 17202. Arrangements are by Grove-Bowersox Funeral Home, Waynesboro.
