Obituary
McArthur Democrat Enquirer, Feb. 8, 1928

Sarah Ann, daughter of Hiram and Minerva Booth, was born in Vinton county, Ohio, March 6, 1843, and departed this life, January 31, 1928, aged 84 years 10 months and 25 days.

She was reared in a country home just on the outskirts of the village of Wilkesville. Here she attended the public school and engaged in the social activities of the community.

On January 1, 1862, at the early age of 18, she was united in marriage to Isaac W. Miller, of Wilkesville, Vinton county, Ohio. For more than sixty-four years they lived happily together, being separated by death only for a brief period. To this union were born two sons and four daughters. Thomas S. of Columbus, Ohio, and George W. of Orland, Ohio. Mrs. Jennie Miller Vaughn, Mrs. Catherine Miller Wells, Mrs. Mamie Miller Ogden, and Mrs. Elizabeth J. Miller Ranck. But one daughter survives their mother, Mrs. Elizabeth Ranck, the others having preceded their mother to the spirit land.

Mrs. Miller was one of a family of ten children. All of whom have passed on, except a sister, Mrs. Sophia Scott, who lives at 119 Maynard Ave., Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller spent most of their married life in Wilkesville and vicinity, making a fine contribution to the moral and religious life of the community. Their lives were full of kindly deeds and their home was noted for its hospitality. Ministers of all denominations found a hearty welcome and royal entertainment in this Christian home, and the poor were never turned empty away.

Mrs. Miller was kindly and patient in her manner, a real neighbor to those who dwelt near her, and enjoyed the love and respect of all who knew her. In her home life, she was of a modest, quiet, and gentle disposition, and was held in highest esteem by all. She was a devoted wife, and a loving mother; and her home was the scene of many happy family reunions.

She was a faithful, devoted member of the Presbyterian church, of the village where she lived. She and her husband, however, assisted as well as attended other churches of the community, exalting Christianity above denominationalism. As a rule they attended the Presbyterian church on the Sunday morning, and the Methodist church in the afternoon.

Theirs was a Christian home in the best sense of the term. The family altar was a daily use, and the children were brought up in the "fear and admonition of the Lord." The children were taught to be kind and hospitable to all, and to live consistent Christian lives.

About fifteen years ago, Mrs. Miller's health began to fail, but she continued to care for the house until about three years ago when she became confined to her bed. Her husband cared for her most tenderly until he was called to his immortal home on December 10th, 1926.

For more than two years, Mrs. Miller has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Ranck, where she received all the care that affections and loving hands could provide. Rarely has a daughter proved herself more devoted than has Mrs. Ranck.

Peacefully release came from the afflictions of this life, and in the quiet hour of eventide, her spirit took its flight to the heavenly home. We can well imagine the reunion that took place in that celestial home.

Mrs. Miller is survived not only by her two sons, and one daughter, but also by 16 grand children and 22 great grand children.

Besides the immediate family, she leaves many other relatives and friends to mourn their loss.

She was ready when the Master called, and of her it could well be said "blessed are the dead who die in the Lord."
