William R. (Tootle) Carey, 89, longtime resident of Stidham died Tuesday, May 31, 2011. Tootle was born December 26, 1921 at Stidham to Robert and Ethel Carey. He attended and graduated from Stidham School. After graduating from Stidham, he was in the U.S. Army Air Corp during World War II. He was stationed in China as an air traffic tower controller. He was a member and deacon of the Stidham Baptist Church since 1949 and attended each Sunday. He was a farmer and rancher till recent years. He also worked for the Army Ammunition Plant in McAlester, for McIntosh County and for the State Highway Department till retirement. Tootle is preceded in death by a wife, Lois Lanora of 58 years. Tootle has 3 children, son Joe Dan and wife Debbie Carey, daughter JoAnn and husband Ronnie Rippy and son Doug and wife Paulette Carey. Tootle was a loving grandfather to Chris Rippy, Andrea and John Capps, Marla and Jim Harwood, Kerri Metcalf, Cody and Tasha Carey, Beth and Steve Kaler, Brad and Carri Carey, April and Matt Belicek. His also had 19 great grandchildren. Tootle has 4 sisters Jewell Laman, Hazel McIntosh, Pearl Jordan and Carrie Lee Anderson. He is also preceded in death by his sisters, Opal Carey and Katie Myers and two brothers George Carey and Bud Carey. He is survived by a special friend Betty Cox. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 3, 2011 at the Stidham Baptist Church with Reverend Gene Cook and Brad Carey officiating. Pallbearers will be Cody Carey, Bradley Carey, Steve Kaler, John Capps, Jim Harwood and Phil McIntosh. Honorary pallbearers will be Adolphus Acord, Buster Jacobs, Herbert Branum, Harold Crabtree and Kyle Buck. Burial will follow at the Lenna Cemetery under the direction of Hunn, Black & Merritt Funeral Home & Crematory.
