Owenby, J. E. "Gene" - age 79 of Knoxville, passed away Wednesday October 30, 2002 at Vanderbilt Burn Center in Nashville. He was a member of Salem Baptist Church, retired employee of Supreme Foods, former Umpire and coach of Halls Junior High Football League and an avid VOL fan and a graduate of Rule High School. He belonged to Bright Hope Lodge #557 F&AM, Jeshua Chapter, Zabud Council, Coer de Lion Commandery, Kych York Rite, Knoxville Scottish Rite Bodies, Kerbella Shriners Director's Staff, and Starlight Chapter OES 463. Preceded in death bt father, Hobart Owenby and mother Lytha Carr Moore. Survived by wife of 60 years, Betty "Pat" Owenby; son and daughter in law, Fred and Bobbie, Dan and Lanell; daughter, Anita; special daughter, Anh Ha Lam; granddaughters, Tami and husband, Joseph Pratt, Sheri Percell and husband, Erin, Christi Eastridge and husband, Rick, Laurel Owenby; great grandchildren, Zachary, Taylor and Isaac Pratt, Hannah and Adam Percell; sister in law, Evelyn Bailey; step brothers, Ron and Don Moore. Masonic memorial service 8 p.m. Saturday with funeral service to follow at Mynatt's Chapel. Rev. Irby Russell, Dr. Phillip Young. Rev. Toby Everett officiating. Family and friends will meet at Woodhaven Memorial Gardens 11 a.m. Monday for Interment service. Arrangements by Mynatt's.
