Herbert D. Pomeroy, 77, of Fort Laramie died June 15 at the Regional West Medical Center in Scottsbluff, Neb.
He was born Nov. 18, 1922, in Denver, Colo., to Carl and Neva Pomeroy.
He graduated from Lingle High School in 1941. He also graduated from watch maker school in Denver, Colo.
Mr. Pomeroy had worked on the gas pipeline in various areas of Wyoming. After moving to Fort Laramie in 1964, he was employed as a custodian and bus driver for the school district, was head groundskeeper at Eastern Wyoming College from 1978 until his retirement in 1987. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
He married Anna Elaine Rymill on Oct. 25, 1946, in Fort Laramie.
He had been a volunteer fireman for many years and had served as a scoutmaster. He was a member of the Fort Laramie Presbyterian Church, serving as an elder, Sunday school teacher, youth group leader and lead a Bible study group. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2918 and was an NEA associate member.
Mr. Pomeroy is survived by four daughters, Joyce Gilchriest of Fort Laramie, Linda Cox of Pleasanton, Texas, Roberta Standish of Cheyenne and Kerry Bullington of Torrington; sister, Patty Riches of Arizona; brother, Larry Pomeroy of Arizona; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents and one brother.
