Olympic Games Gold Medalist Athlete. He competed in five consecutive Summer Olympic Games from 1960 to 1976 as ab equestrian, and was Australia's oldest Olympian. The patriarch of a prominent Australian equestrian family, he rode in his first Olympics at the age of 45, competing with a broken collarbone. At the 1960 Summer Olympic Games Rome, he won Australia's first-ever Olympic medal in the equestrian, when he was awarded the gold medal for the team three-day event. At the 1968 Summer Olympic Games in Mexico City, Mexico, he was a bronze medalist in the same event. He became Australia's oldest medalist and oldest competitor at 61, when he won the bronze medal at the 1976 Summer Olympic Games in Montreal, Canada. In 1978, he was awarded the Australian Olympic Committee's Order of Merit and was one of eight of Australia's greatest Olympians selected to carry the Olympic flag into the stadium at the opening ceremony for the 2000 Olympics in Sydney. He died of natural causes at age 96.
