Carl D. Fowler
Carl D. Fowler, 77, Bolivar, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 1998, in Parkview Health Care Facility. He had been a resident of the facility for six years and had suffered with Parkinson's disease for 23 years. He was born Jan. 18, 1921, in Dallas County to Orla Ray and Sannah Rife Fowler.
He left school at age 14 to work on cars, which became his lifelong vocation. During World War II he worked in the shipyards in Oakland, Calif., and he also worked for a short time in Kansas City. He and his wife, Minnie, were residents of Urbana and Tunas before moving to Pleasant Hope to be nearer their children. He was recently honored as a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He had moved his membership to the Pleasant Hope Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Minnie McGee Fowler in 1994; a grandson, Keith Andrew Maness; and a sister, Reva Swigert. He is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Linda and Jack Crawford, Sandra and Don Manes and Brenda and Bill Adams; a son, Larry Fowler; four grandchildren, four step grandchildren, two great-grandsons, three step-great-grandsons and three step-great-granddaughters; a sister, Zelpha Collins of Wichita, and two brothers, Chester Fowler of Kansas City and Orla Ray Fowler of Tunas. Also surviving are a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Faye McGee. Masonic services were Friday, Jan. 1, at Montgomery-Viets Funeral Home, Buffalo.
Graveside services were Saturday, Jan. 2, in Mission Ridge (Lone Post) Cemetery south of Urbana with the Rev. Pete Davidson officiating.
