Mrs. Oma Maddox, 94, of Madisonville, KY, died Wednesday, October 24, 2007, at 10:15 P.M., at the Regional Medical Center in Madisonville.
She was born January 11, 1913, in Hopkins County, KY, to the late Dave Alexander and Bessie Lantrip Alexander. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harlan "Red" Maddox on March 4, 1987; a daughter, Julia Whitmer; a son, Don Maddox; three brothers, Bill Alexander, Clarence Rhye and Ross Rhye; a sister, Hazel Smith; her step-mother, Cora Rhye Alexander and two great grandchildren, Christian Maddox and Elizabeth Maddox.
She was one of the first family members of Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church where she taught the 8 year old Sunday School class for 58 years and was a member of the Ladies Auxillary.
Mrs. Maddox is survived by two daughters, Martha Carter of Manitou, KY and Jane Lamb of Lexington, KY; two sons, David Maddox of Madisonville and Dick Maddox of Murray, KY; two half-sisters, Lucille Davenport of Madisonville and Mary Petrovich of Chicago, IL; thirty-six grandchildren; thirty-nine great grandchildren and eleven great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Saturday, October 27, 2007, at 2:00 P.M. at Greater Lighthouse Pentecostal Church with Rev. Ronnie Hendricks officiating. Burial will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home and from 1:00 P.M. until the service time on Saturday at the church.
