His career as a player was successful, but as a coach, he probably was the most successful in Argentine soccer history. He coached clubs such as San Lorenzo de Almagro, River Plate and Boca Juniors (Argentina), Atlético de Madrid (Spain), Lazio (Italy) and was the coach of the Argentine National Team at the World Cups of Chile (1962) and England (1966).
